The NBC29 newsroom received the following press release from the town of Culpeper:
Culpeper police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of the Comfort Inn in the 800 block of Willis Lane last night.
Police are asking for the public's help identifying the black male, who was armed with a handgun during the incident. He is described as being dark complected in his late 20s. He stands between 5 feet 10 inches and six feet two inches tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with white lettering on the back, dark blue jeans and tennis shoes.
About 9 p.m., the male approached the female clerk and demanded money. Before the clerk could hand over any cash another clerk came back to the front desk. The man then fled on foot.
Sgt. Lonnie Myers, one of the first officers on scene, contacted Master Police Officer Jeff Dodson, whose canine tracked to the area of the Village Apartments in the 600 block of Willis Lane.
Officers Eric Grant, Norma McGuckin and Richard McKnight secured the scene, set up a perimeter and checked the area for the suspect as well as contacted neighbors to see if anyone saw anything.
Detective Luke Altman responded to the crime scene and collected evidence.
