Volunteers in Fluvanna County are doing what they can to help heat neighbors around central Virginia this winter.
For the past 15 years, Shawn Metcalf and his family have donated excess wood gathered from their tree service, to families through their Start a Spark foundation. A group of volunteers split hundreds of pieces of firewood Saturday morning, an effort that will pay off for those in need this winter.
Kelley Metcalf said, "I get phone calls all the time, people who can't afford to heat their homes. And if they can use the wood, then that's what we try to do."
The foundation hopes to help as many families as they can this winter in Fluvanna and surrounding counties. They'll have another work day on January 7. Click here to find more information.
