Some central Virginia seniors are now armed with new tools to stop scammers from taking advantage of their money this holiday season.
The Charlottesville Senior Center hosted a free seminar Tuesday for them to learn how to prevent fraud, especially online.
A risk manager from Union First Market Bank told the crowd to avoid clicking on links from unfamiliar email addresses and to never give out personal financial information to an unknown caller or unsecured website.
W. Rod Gentry, the senior vice president of Union First Market Bank said, "The internet's just a wonderful tool as everyone knows, but there are also risks associated with it. Be cautious, be focused, be thoughtful, be careful when you're sharing any kind of personal information with any source - know the source you're sharing it with."
The bank and the Jefferson Area Board for Aging sponsored the seminar.
