The Albemarle County fire chief says the cause of the blaze is undetermined, but likely accidental. They also determined the 55 gallon drums were filled with various oils, but the drums did not create a problem.
A large storage structure caught fire Sunday night, keeping firefighters busy for several hours as they worked to keep the blaze from spreading to other homes in the neighborhood.
Firefighters responded to the call just after 11:00 near the 1800 block of Slate Mill Branch Road just off of Old Lynchburg Road in Albemarle County. Fire crews were worried about several 55 gallon drums in the structure. They were unsure if they contained flammable material which could explode.
More than 10 units from several area departments responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
