The Wilson Memorial High School football team beat visiting Dan River 43-40 Friday night to advance to the Class A, Division 2 state semifinals.
Neither team punted or turned the ball over in a back-and-forth first half, and Wilson led 28-26 at the break.
They took a 17-point lead midway through the fourth quarter after a Preston Deacon touchdown with a two-point conversion and were able to hold on for the win.
Junior running back Malik Rucks led the Green Hornets with 22 carries for 205 yards and four touchdowns.
Senior Connery Swift ran the ball 23 times for 114 yards rushing and a touchdown.
The Fighting Hornets will face unbeaten Goochland Saturday in the state semifinals.
In another Class A, Division 2 quarterfinal Friday night, Gretna upset defending state champion Riverheads 28-14.
The loss ends the Gladiators 24-game winning streak.
Riverheads junior Logan Moore carried the ball 24 times for 153 yards, finishing the season with 1,996 yards rushing.
