It's a typical day for Charlottesville firefighters. They spent Thursday afternoon doing some training exercises, but still found time to eat Thanksgiving dinner.
Plenty of firefighters manned the kitchen to prepare the feast. The firehouse cooks a dinner like this every year for those on duty.
Captain Jimmy Strother was on carving duty this year. "I'm carving up one of the turkeys we fried. I have two firefighters outside that smoked the turkey breast and they also smoked some venison. And I previously carved a ham that we have," he said.
Even though the food is good, firefighters would still rather be with family, so this is one of the sacrifices of the job. Click on the video above to see the story of a rookie firefighter who is spending his first Thanksgiving away from his home in New Jersey.
