2nd Unit at North Anna Nuclear Plant Hasn't Restarted

Dominion Virginia Power says it won't be able to meet a Sunday goal of having both of its nuclear reactors back at full power at the North Anna Power Station.

The reactors automatically shut down after a 5.8-magnitude quake on Aug. 23 caused peak ground movement about twice the level for which it was designed.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission last week gave the company the go-ahead to restart the reactors. Commission figures show Unit 1 reached full power on Friday morning, while Unit 2 had yet to be restarted.

Dominion spokesman Richard Zuercher tells the Richmond-Times Dispatch that workers at North Anna discovered a problem with a Unit 2 electrical connector.

He didn't have a specific timetable for Unit 2's restart, saying it would be back online soon.
