Neighbors Frustrated With New Ridge Street Crime

Posted: Updated:

Neighbors along Ridge Street in Charlottesville say they are frustrated and concerned for their safety after a vandalism spree this week left car tires slashed and windows broken.

Neighbors say they have seen some criminal activity in the area in the past, but never this much in such a short period of time. They say sometime late Thursday night, several cars parked along Ridge Street near Lankford Avenue had their tires slashed. One neighbor had his car window smashed, and another reported that a motorcycle had been stolen from his driveway.

David Sanders lives in the area. One of his friends visiting from out of town had his tires slashed. He says the activity has him questioning safety in the neighborhood. "The car slashing, the guy's motorcycle being stolen, you know we've had people walking through our yard looking for lost children, so we've seen quite a few things… I think the best advice is if you see stuff like this then report it," said Sanders.

He says he hasn't experienced anything like this since moving into his home in January. Charlottesville police say they are increasing patrols in the area to prevent more crimes from occurring. They have made no arrests, and there is no word on whether this string of activity is related.
