A Crimora woman is facing charges after police say she got drunk and got behind the wheel Now two people are dead and she is recovering in the hospital.
Police say that an accident reconstruction team has launched an investigation and additional charges are pending.
It happened just before 8:00 Thursday night along Half Mile Branch Road. Police say three people were in a car when the driver lost control and hit a tree. The car caught on fire.
Police have charged 36-year-old Jessica Lewis with driving under the influence.
Sergeant Darrell Byers of the Albemarle County Police Department said, "Speed definitely was a factor. It appears the vehicle came around a curve, ran off the road and impacted a tree and became fully engulfed in flames."
Lewis is being treated at the hospital for her injuries.
Her two passengers have been identified as 20-year-old Amber Johnson and 40-year-old Michael Johnson.
In this kind of situation police say any additional charges would likely be manslaughter, but Lewis is only charged with DUI at this point.
