A Frightening and Fun Halloween in Central Virginia

Posted: Updated: Oct 30, 2011 07:37 PM EDT

It is almost Halloween night and central Virginia has options galore to get your trick or treat bags filled to the brim with goodies. And for those looking for a less of a treat, there are some scarier alternatives to get your spooky fix. (Events listed below)

But before you go out for a Halloween adventure, the Charlottesville Fire Department wants to make sure your little ghosts and goblins are safe when they go trick-or-treating.

  • Make sure you and your children are wearing bright clothing so people can see you when you're coming in and out of driveways.
  • Have a flashlight on hand - you can even try to incorporate it into your costumes.
  • Slow down when driving through a residential area.
  • Also, don't forget about any candle decorations inside and outside of your house.

"If you're using jack-o-lanterns don't leave them somewhere where people may walk with trick-or-treaters can kick them over or something can happen. So we want to make sure that it is a fire safe Halloween," said Chief Richard Jones with the Charlottesville Fire Department.
