Fifth District Congressman Robert Hurt was in Charlottesville Friday speaking to a group of small business owners about the state of the economy.
New numbers out Friday show the national unemployment rate remains about 9 percent. Hurt says more compromise needs to happen before the House can pass President Obama's jobs bill.
Hurt stated, "To cut spending and to reduce regulations going forward, we're going to find common ground. To the extent that there are new stimulus-style spending programs that are not paid for unless you raise taxes, I think that we're going to have a harder time getting there."
Members of the Blue Ridge Employee Shared Ownership Plan (ESOP) hosted the congressman. ESOP companies are typically privately owned and allow their employees to own a share of the company.
