American Shakespeare Center Celebrates 10th Anniversary
Ten years ago, the American Shakespeare Center opened a one-of-a-kind theater in Staunton and the city has never been the same. The Blackfriars Playhouse opened to rave reviews and has since attracted visitors from every state and dozens of foreign countries.
Staunton tourism revenue has risen by $18 million over the past decade. The city has also seen a cultural revival, with the opening of new restaurants, galleries and performance venues.
Staunton Economic Director Bill Hamilton said, "They brought another element that draws visitors from across the country and outside the country and so forth. So certainly a welcome new momentum to our effort came with them."
A full year of special performances and promotions for the 10th anniversary of the American Shakespeare Center kicks off Wednesday night. Click here for more information.
