The University of Virginia wants students to know about its relationship with the Local Food Hub. Tuesday, a pop-up food stand was set up on grounds by the amphitheater.
The food hub and the university have been working together for a few years now. UVA's Dining Services takes advantage of the products grown in the area by farmers. For them, the food hub is sort of like one-stop shopping.
"Dining is able to buy local foods through the Food Hub without having to get on the phone and call individual farmers and try to aggregate say 3,000 pounds of tomatoes that we might need for a single meal in one of our dining halls," said Sustainability Coordinator Kendall Singleton.
Singleton also says UVA is looking to increase its local food buys.
