A $2 million renovation at Staunton's Mary Baldwin College is on budget and on schedule. The 40-year-old Pearce Science Center is being remodeled. One classroom is already finished and being used.
The space has new cabinets and benches, lighting and teaching technology. They hope to be done with the imaging suite and animal research lab by spring semester. But construction during the school year has been challenging.
Mary Baldwin's Director of Facilities Management Brent Douglass said, "We have to tolerate a certain amount of noise just to get the job done. But I think we've made it possible for both the construction and the academic work to coexist in this building."
Fundraising is underway for phase two plans to renovate the upper floors of the Pearce Science Building. They hope to begin work in January.
