An Augusta County jury has decided the fate of two grandparents who made a child sleep in a storage building.
Arthur Warren, 65, and Marcia Warren, 67, were convicted Thursday night of misdemeanor abuse charges. The Warrens were each charged with one count of felony child abuse.
Prosecutors say they forced their 9-year-old grandson to sleep in the shed, as punishment for chronic bed-wetting.
Both Warrens testified Thursday that the child liked the arrangement, and thought of it as camping. But the child himself said the building was dark and scary with temperatures ranging from "blistering hot" to "freezing."
The alleged victim slept in the 12-by-28 building on the Warren's property near Greenville from August to late October of last year.
It was his teacher from Riverheads Elementary School who first reported the possible abuse when the shivering child told her where he was spending his nights.
The boy's parents, Francis and Becky Yoho, will face their own trial next week.
