First Baby Born at Martha Jefferson Hospital's New Location
It didn't take long for the new Martha Jefferson Hospital to welcome its first baby. Alex Irwin was born just after noon on Sunday, less than two hours after the hospital completed its move from downtown Charlottesville to Pantops.
Alex was born a week earlier than expected.
New mom Janelle Irwin said, "We always know how old the hospital is by how old our son is. You know - the hospital is 10 years old now, because that's Alex's birthday. Yeah, it will definitely be something nice to be able to share with him."
The Irwin's didn't expect to be the first family to give birth at the new hospital, but say the process couldn't have been smoother.
