Both the airports in our viewing area  rely on major hubs to get you where you need to go. And Hurricane Irene is already causing problems. Late-morning flights from Charlottesville to Charlotte are 2.5 hours late.

The five major airports around New York City are closing because of Hurricane Irene. At noon Saturday those airports, including JFK and LaGuardia , will all suspend service because of the storm.

The worry is about passengers getting stranded because New York City's mass transit is also being shut down.

The shut down could have a ripple effect on service across the country.  It's a good idea to check on the status of your individual flight. Other airport closures and service delays are possible -- even probable -- as Irene bears down on the East Coast.
