For the first time, Congressman Bob Goodlatte will have a fight for his party's nomination. Karen Kwiatkowski announced Thursday that she'll seek the Republican nod in the Sixth District.
She's an air-force veteran, teacher and cattle farmer from Shenandoah County. Kwiatkowski says her campaign is simple: reduce, redirect and rein-in the federal government.
She describes herself as a "hardcore fiscal conservative" and criticized the incumbent Goodlatte for voting to raise the federal debt limit.
Goodlatte is in his 10th 2-year term and serves as vice chairman of the House Agriculture Committee.
