The Wildlife Center of Virginia has proven to be an advocate for all creatures great and small. But perhaps "tiny" is a better word for the 29 baby snapping turtles that volunteers returned to the South River in Waynesboro on Tuesday.
They hatched less than a week ago, but are born ready to survive on their own. Saturday's storm washed the turtles up into the Waynesboro First Aid Crew parking lot on West Broad Street. Veterinarians checked them out and declared them healthy enough for their return to the wild.
