Sky Bar Plans to Go Before Board of Architectural Review

Posted: Updated:

Update:  Charlottesville's Board of Architectural Review put its stamp of approval on the design for a new rooftop bar downtown Tuesday night.  The board said "yes" to some building design changes and deck design.  The applicant does have to come back with a better plan for wood layout on a deck.

A new bar and restaurant on the downtown mall will go before Charlottesville's Board of Architectural Review Tuesday night. The developers of the Commonwealth Restaurant and Sky Bar are looking for a certificate of appropriateness.

They need it for additional renovations to the restaurant, specifically to the west side of the building.

Charlottesville City Spokesperson Ric Barrick said, "The restaurant has asked the city for additional space, café space outside of their entrance and because the slope there is pretty extreme on the mall they've asked us to accept a new design that allows for a wood area."

The business is located on the corner of 5th Street.  It will have the mall's first large rooftop deck.
