Storyline Project Chalks Mural on Free Expression Wall

Posted: Updated:

A large mural is now on display on the downtown mall in Charlottesville. More than a dozen students spent Thursday morning chalking a picture on the free expression wall.

The third annual Storyline Project is collaboration with Piedmont Council for the Arts. According to the Storyline Project website, "The Storyline Project joins local artists, designers and historians with Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Summer Camp youths to explore and interpret the places where they live."

The theme this year was waterways and watersheds. Leading up to this, the student campers explored nearby natural areas this week to get inspired.

Greg Kelly, the executive director of The Bridge, said, "It's a way that we can get them out into the city and have them understand our community a lot more deeply and understand the stories that inform the history of our community and also impacting the present situation."

The Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Department also helped with the event.
