The Darden School of Business is helping 12 startup businesses get rolling. It's all part of the school's incubator program. Entrepreneurs are given $13,000 to spend on their businesses. The school monitors how the money is spent.
Joe Chard's business is making custom games for the Android platform. His first game is already out. He says the experience provided by the program is priceless.
Chard said, "You're able to avoid so many of the common pitfalls that early stage startups hit just because you're with other people who say, ‘oh I made that mistake, learn from me,' you don't make that mistake. It cuts you tons of time in getting to market."
Some ideas are still in the beginning stages, others, like Chard's, are out in the market. Some of the other potential businesses include something called Pop Up Yoga, as well as a teddy bear capable of playing games and telling stories to children.
