The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office in Waynesboro has been temporarily closed because of an unwanted waterfall. On Monday, a broken coupling allowed water to pour from the ceiling, right into the customer-service area.
The plumbing has been fixed, but contractors need to replace damaged ceiling tiles, carpeting and counters. The DMV says there was no damage to its computer systems.
"Employees were really on the ball, and right when the water started coming out of the ceiling they covered up their PCs with plastic bags, moved them out of the way of the water…so we were able to protect all of the electronic equipment," said DMV Spokeswoman Melanie Stokes.
The Waynesboro office will reopen no earlier than Thursday. Until then, customers can use on-line services or the nearby DMV offices in Staunton and Charlottesville.
