SARA Reaches $110,000 Goal

Posted: Updated:

The Charlottesville-based Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA) has reached its $110,000 goal to bring prevention programs to kids.

That money will support two full-time educators assigned to teach students, teachers, and parents about sexual assault. SARA is already in seven schools across central Virginia, and the non-profit's educators say they've seen firsthand how kids can be empowered to step up and speak out against the violence.

Executive Director of SARA Margaret Mikkelson explained, "If children grow up not understanding their own personal boundaries, respecting the boundaries of others, having empathy and respect for other people, then they won't understand why it's important to, as they grow, as they become adults who have sexual relationships with others, to respect other people and to be healthy."

SARA's director says it's gratifying to know so many people were willing to dig deep and support the Campaign for Prevention.
