Dogs Rescued from Nelson Ready for Adoption

Posted: Updated:

It's a new day for some dogs saved from a horrible situation in Nelson County. Back in March, animal control officers found three dead dogs, and eight others struggling to live in deplorable conditions in an abandoned home. Now, the dogs are recovering and need a home.

A dose of tender love and care has gone a long way with the pooches. Some are progressing a little faster, while others need a little more attention. But five are ready to move into a new home.

Looking at the pups, you would have never guessed they were living in such horrible conditions. They lived in an abandoned home for almost two years. One of their owners, Robin Pfeiffer, was found guilty of several counts of animal cruelty last month. Her husband is still nowhere to be found.

Fonda Bell is fostering six of the dogs. She says the pups love being outside but mom is still on the shy side. Bell is not sure they ever saw daylight.

Bell stated, "They've become very attached. The puppies are doing wonderful. The momma dog in the past two days has eaten a treat out of my hand, she's coming around. I can't pet her yet."

Bell is also taking care of Joey and Ben - they too are on the timid side.

Then there's Jake and Dylan. The live at the Almost Hope Pet Adoption Center. They are special needs dogs. Jake only has three legs, and Dylan needs hip surgery.

Jake and Dylan and the three pups are up for adoption, the others are not ready just yet. The amazing thing about all these dogs is, even though they have been through a lot, they are not the least bit aggressive, most love all of the attention.

They've been through a lot, but they've not taken it out on people, " said Bette Graham of the Almost Home Pet Adoption Center. " They just very happy to be loved."

If you would like to adopt one of these dogs, the Almost Home Pet Adoption Center would love to talk to you. If you're not ready to adopt, one, the center is always looking for volunteers to walk and play with the dogs. Click here for more information.
