The sinkhole is already 20 feet wide and about 15 feet deep
A sinkhole, that opened along Route 250 just west of Staunton, has proved to be larger than expected. Traffic on Rt. 250 is narrowed to one lane while crews are repairing it, and it may take until Tuesday to finish.
The sinkhole is already 20 feet wide and about 15 feet deep. Crews have to keep digging until they find solid rock at its base. They will then fill it with boulders, then smaller rocks and soil.
Update Tuesday, May 10, 2011:
On Tuesday, crews began filling the sink hole but say they are still a day away from finishing the work on the large sinkhole along Route 250.
