Fast work by firefighters helped prevent extensive damage to a Charlottesville business with a 60 year history. Fire crews were called to the Virginia Glass Company Tuesday night, and thanks to their quick response, the employees still had a place to come to work Wednesday.
Calls came in for the two alarm fire just before 6:30 Tuesday evening. Wednesday workers at Virginia Glass Company are back at their Charlottesville office picking up the pieces.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the workshop area of the building where it started. But other parts of the building suffered smoke damage and some of the company's inventory was destroyed.
Owner Brent Wright says he's disappointed but knows that things easily could have been worse. Wright stated, "The fire department responded so quickly and kept it confined to the older part of the building, so we were able to save probably half of our inventory and the best part of the building."
Wright says aside from the cleanup efforts, it's back to business as usual. Workers are already out on their scheduled house calls and the company is still taking in new customers.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No one was hurt in the blaze.
