Improvements to a dangerous section of Old Lynchburg Road are on the way. Charlottesville is moving forward with adding sidewalks and pedestrian crosswalks from Jefferson Park Avenue to Azalea Park.
Monday night city council will get an update on the progress. The design phase is now underway to get the project ready for construction.
Charlottesville City Spokesperson Ric Barrick said, "We've had a great deal of neighborhood impact and discussion that has centered around why they feel this project is necessary and one that should be at the top of the list. They've had some genuine concerns about infrastructure, about safety, about speed."
The total price on the project is $3,693,377. Of that, $693,377 has already been allocated with the rest to be approve this year in the proposed 2011-12 capital improvements plan.
