Man Arrested for Stealing Ambulance

A man is in jail after stealing a Greene county ambulance from the University of Virginia Medical Center Friday morning. Twenty-six-year-old Jay Gatliff is facing a grand larceny charge.

Police say he drove off from the UVA Medical Center in an unsecured ambulance. State police stopped the ambulance on Interstate 64 a short time later.

Gatliff is being held at the Albemarle - Charlottesville Regional Jail.

University Police Arrest Woodstock Resident for Grand Larceny 

University of Virginia Police charged Jay Tilden Gatliff with grand larceny. 

At 4:54 a.m. on March 4, 2011, Gatliff got into an unsecured ambulance at the University of Virginia Emergency Department and drove away.  University Police alerted local law enforcement. 

The Virginia State Police stopped the ambulance near mile marker 93 on Interstate 64 at 5:18 a.m. 

Gatliff was taken into custody without incident.  He is currently being held at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.
