The Albemarle county school board is adding to its ranks. The group has an open seat to fill and Wednesday night it picked a replacement from a group of candidates.
In a 4 to 2 vote, Jason Buyaki was selected to replace former member Ron Price. Price stepped down earlier this year to take a job out of state.
Buyaki is the dad of current Albemarle county students. He beat out two other candidates looking to fill the seat.
Wednesday night all three men vying for the spot faced the current board to take questions about education in the county. Each had the opportunity to express their opinions on small class sizes, competitive salaries for teachers and preparing students for life after graduation.
Albemarle School Board Chair Steve Koleszar stated, "I was impressed with all three candidates, they were all thoughtful, they all brought different perspectives, and I think that all three would add something to our board."
The question and answer session also featured questions from the public.
Buyaki will still needs to be sworn into the post. The school board needed to fill the post by the February 19 or the state would have stepped in to do so.
