Music For Hope

A former Vegas musician who now calls Albemarle County home is kicking off a donation drive to get used instruments into the hands of kids.

Michael Jones founded Music for Hope in Nevada in 1997. Jones and a group of volunteers refurbish the instruments and ship them to schools that can't afford them. He started a Charlottesville chapter last year and has already collected 50 instruments from people in central Virginia.

Jones stated, "An instrument's not happy unless it's being played. There's no reason having it collect dust and sitting in the closet. If you donate to us, we'll find it a good home. It'll make a positive effect on a child's life that otherwise wouldn't have an opportunity."

If you have a used instrument or want to donate cash, you can drop them off at Specialty Guitars Plus on Rio Road.
