Federal Aviation Administration officials say a small plane collided with a medical helicopter in Augusta County Friday, killing two people on the plane.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. near the 800 block of Weyers Cave Road in Weyers Cave near the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport.
Reports indicate a 'Eurocopter EC-135' medical helicopter collided in mid-air with a Cessna 172 and that two people were killed. The two people killed were aboard the Cessna 172 plane.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters said the helicopter was damaged but landed safely. He says the occupants of the helicopter walked away, and he was not aware of any injuries on the ground.

Witnesses say the helicopter clipped the top of a small airplane. The wing of the plane fell off and the plane nose dived. The plane landed in the trees at the north end of the runway. The wing of the plane ended up across the road on an iced over pond.
Representatives from the National Transportation Safety Board are on scene investigating.
The names of the victims have not been released, they are expected to be released Saturday.
