A crowd turned out for a groundbreaking for the $1.3 million Lewis and Clark Discovery Center.
History was on the minds of many at Albemarle County's Darden Towe Park Thursday afternoon. A crowd turned out for a groundbreaking for the $1.3 million Lewis and Clark Discovery Center.
The afternoon's activities also included a public hearing to collect input on the possible expansion of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail into parts of Virginia.
Director of the Lewis and Clark Exploratory Center Alexandria Searls said, "To be a part of that from the East Coast is to really open up tourism to the area and to open up a whole odyssey of how visitors can enrich their experience to the Lewis and Clark Trail."
The existing 3700 mile trail runs from Illinois to the state of Washington. The National Park Service will host a number of public meetings before making any decisions.
