University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan spent Saturday afternoon welcoming the class of 2014.

During her welcome address, the president reminded new students to take common sense steps to ensure their safety. She cautioned students about walking alone at night, and urged them to pay attention to their surroundings.

Sullivan said, "Many in this community are still aching from the death of Yeardley Love last spring. As we begin the new academic year, we want to continue the conversations that began in the wake of Yeardley's death."

Sullivan announced that the university will hold a day of dialogue to discuss violence prevention and safety on grounds. The event is scheduled for September 24th.
