Police are searching for Bel Rio owner James Baldi, seen her (in white) at a city council meeting. He is facing embezzlement charges but has disappeared from the area.
The controversy surrounding a Charlottesville restaurant continues Thursday. James Baldi, owner of the recently-closed Bel Rio in Belmont, is now in trouble with the law, charged with embezzlement.
Albemarle County police are now on the hunt for Baldi, who has apparently disappeared.
The 46-year-old Baldi is accused of embezzling money from W-K Foods and Proffitt Management. Baldi was employed by both companies and was handling their finances. Police will not say how much money was taken but they do say the investigation stems from last November.
Police say his arrest warrant is not a public record so they did not release it. Baldi disappeared earlier this month and police do not know of his whereabouts.
