Johnson Indicted on First Degree Murder Charge

A Staunton teenager accused of suffocating her 2-month-old baby is on her way to trial.

Seventeen-year-old Ashkea Johnson was indicted Monday on a charge of first-degree murder. She faces a possible life sentence if convicted.

Prosecutors claim Johnson smothered her baby girl last November by holding a bag over her nose and mouth.

The infant was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where she died several days later.
