The man who broke the color barrier at the Waynesboro Police Department was laid to rest Tuesday.
Family members, friends and fellow officers took part in the funeral of Eugene Perry, who died just before Christmas at the age of 80.
In 1963, Perry became Waynesboro's first African American police officer. He served the department for more than 20 years, and retired with the rank of corporal.
After a ceremony at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Perry was buried at Riverview Cemetery.
