Firefighters in Louisa County on Saturday trained to fight and contain wildfires like the ones that charred 1,000 acres there last February.
About 20 firefighters took part in a special workshop with the Virginia Department of Forestry. The firemen hacked their way through the woods, learning techniques to control a wildfire and how to protect themselves inside special tents in case they become surrounded by flames.
"From that experience, we as a county realized we need to work harder in training to bring up our level of expertise on training for these kind of fires, so we can work together, and when this happens again we can fight it safely," said David Stone with the Virginia Deptartment of Forestry.
Virginia is currently under a daytime burn ban. It's against the law to burn before 4 p.m. in close proximity to open brush or buildings.
