UVA Dems Headed to South Carolina

Posted: Updated:

When Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards head down to South Carolina for the next primary, they won't be alone. They'll have UVA students right by their side.

It's a six-hour drive down to South Carolina, but that's a trip some UVA Democrats are more than happy to make. Members of the University Democrats will be in South Carolina to support their favorite Democrats in Saturday's primary. They'll do everything from knocking on doors to making phone calls to standing on corners with campaign signs.

Though the students we spoke to all support different candidates, they all say they love taking part in the polticial process. They say young people will have a big say in who becomes the next president.

"Young people should really get their voices heard because when they do vote it really matters. Obama winning Iowa was because young people got out and voted," said Sarah Buckley, who is on Team Edwards.

This isn't the first caucus for many of the volunteers. Many of them went to the Iowa and New Hampshire caucuses as well.

They'll head to South Carolina on Friday.
