Fire officials shut down the Staunton Applebee's after several people became sick. The incident happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Thursday, the restaurant is back open.
Wednesday, medical crews cared for at least seven people--all were Applebee's employees. They complained of dizziness, headaches and feeling nauseated--symptoms similar to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Fire crews tested the kitchen and dining area for the gas and closed the restaurant.
It turns out, the hood system over the grill in the kitchen malfunctioned and wasn't filtering out the exhaust. Workers repaired the system and the eatery opened on time Thursday morning.
