An Albemarle County man has been arrested on rape charges involving a 13-year-old girl.
According to court records, the alleged rape occurred last May but the suspect, 20-year-old Louis Felipe Hernandez, wasn't arrested until last Wednesday. He and the girl involved live in the Southwood neighborhood. It was the victim's family that reported the crime to Albemarle County Police.
Neighbors in Southwood say Hernandez and the victim, who's now 13, were dating. It's reported her father called police on Hernandez after she turned up pregnant with what is believed to be his child.
There are also questions being asked about other girls having been similarly involved. One neighbor says underage girls dating older guys are not uncommon in Southwood.
One neighbor stated, "There's a lot of younger ones out here talking to the older ones so I just don't pay any attention to it, to be honest. It's not nothing new to be shocked about, no...not out here."
Hernandez is being held without bond at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.
Albemarle County Police Lieutenant Todd Hopwood says if there are other underage girls in the neighborhood who have had relations with Hernandez, they should come forward and speak with investigators.
