Volunteers from the Oakland School and other folks in the community got down and dirty to plant more than 1,300 trees at the Charlottesville Albemarle Regional Airport.
The airport and the Rivanna Conservation Society teamed up for this buffer planting event.
Planting these trees along streams that flow into Chris Greene Lake and the Rivanna River can help filter out stormwater runoff from the airport property.
Robbi Savage, one of the ladies who helped out, said, “The neat thing is every time I fly out of the airport, I’ll know I helped plant those trees.”
The airport received a grant from the Virginia Department of Conservation enabling the first phase of the tree plantings to get in the ground.
