Congressman Tom Perriello’s healthcare vote was not going to please everyone, that much was obvious. Protestors have already complained, but Thursday, supporters stepped out to say thank you.
Dark skies and wet weather didn't stop people for Congressman Perriello’s yes vote on healthcare from rallying outside his Charlottesville office.
Congressman Perriello was one of 219 Democrats to vote yes on the House health care bill. Dozens of supporters held signs applauding the move and saying thank you.
They say the legislation will help reduce the federal deficit, insure millions of Americans, and improve reimbursement rates for Virginia’s rural hospitals.
Brandyn Keating supports Perriello’s yes vote. Keating says, “Health insurance is breaking folks' backs and they're not getting the care they need which is simply unacceptable, so we're here to applaud the fact that a historic step has been taken.”
Opponents to the $1.2 trillion healthcare bill have called the plan a monstrosity. They say it could have a huge negative impact on small businesses and argue the congressman was not listening during his town hall meetings on the subject.
Ralliers say from here they'll take their message to senators Warner and Webb who will have a hand in crafting the Senate's version of the bill.
