Albemarle County and Charlottesville City Schools are bracing for another round of cuts.
The latest decrease comes from the state's composite index of local ability to pay. The formula evaluates how much a locality can fund education. Albemarle Schools will see $12 million less in state funding through 2012.
The formula is based off real estate values for 2007, which were booming at the time, and other revenues like sales tax.
Albemarle County Schools Assistant Superintendent Dr. Bruce Benson says, "It creates a significant challenge for us. When you take what we're now projecting as a drop in state revenues, add on the local revenue projections which are not very encouraging, we're looking at having to do some significant restructuring of dollars."
Charlottesville Schools will see a $2 million decrease. Both school divisions say they will work through the crunch starting in December.
