Democrats running for statewide office did not have a good night Tuesday night; it was a different story however for democrats running in Charlottesville. Dave Norris and Kristin Szakos won the two open seats on Charlottesville City Council, with 39 and 31 percent of the vote respectively.
Norris said, "We don't just represent the people who voted for us, we represent the entire community and it's incumbent upon us to reach out to the entire community, including people who may not have voted for us, and make sure their voices are heard as well."
Szakos stated, “I think it also show that people are very solution oriented here, it is not about saying no, it is not about shutting things down, it is about moving forward and I’m just delighted to be a Charlottesville resident.”
A democrat won as well in the race for Charlottesville sheriff, James Brown defeated independent candidate Paul Best with 62 percent of the vote.
