Ninth graders at Western Albemarle High School took part in an inaugural community service day Wednesday. The teens cleaned up the trails at Mint Springs and also painted, weeded and mulched at Crozet Park. Organizers hope the event will become an annual tradition.
WAHS freshman Richard Beckett-Ansa says "When we clean up after ourselves we make it a better community for all of us because if we don't clean after ourselves we slowly destroy nature and the community we live in is just going to get dirtier."
The students also made rain barrels to sell to the community to promote water conservation.
The day's events were chronicled by members of the schools yearbook, journalism and video production classes.
