The Virginia football team picked up its second win in-a-row this week after beating Indiana 47-7 Saturday.
The Cavaliers received another strong performance from quarterback Jameel Sewell, as the senior passed for over 300-yards for the second time in the past three games.
Sewell threw for 308 yards and a touchdown in the win against the Hoosiers, and rushed for another score.
He also led the Cavaliers to over 500 yards of total offense, which is their best output in five years.
Perhaps most importantly, Sewell had his second-straight turnover-free game.
Sewell says, "If I don't turn the ball over that means one of my playmakers is going to have the ball, and we're gonna get positive yards somehow."
The quarterback says every throw wasn't exactly where he wanted, but the Cavaliers receivers were correcting any mistakes.
"They know a ball coming from me is not going to be perfect," says Sewell. "I can get, you know what I mean, but the guys go out and make great plays for me."
Coach Al Groh says, "If they throw it right at you, you can pretty much catch it with a fishing net. It's some of those plays that you gotta make to step up and be a quality receiver, and we're starting to see that a little bit."
Groh says Sewell's improvement from week one is no surprise.
"In the previous two years, Jameel's season started a little slow," says Groh. "It took a little while for him to get the rhythm of the game. With a years absence on top of that this year, that was certainly the case."
Sewell says, "I don't like the excuse, 'You've been gone from football for a year, it's expected.' I often talked with coach Groh, and he stayed with me."
Vic Hall was also in the quarterback mix at the beginning of the season, but says he's been impressed with Sewell.
"Everybody can see Jameel is the guy for our team," says Hall. "I think that's pretty evident."
Groh adds, "I think it really shows how badly we missed him last year, and how important he has been to our team."
Sewell and the Cavaliers return to action Saturday at Maryland.
