Thursday may mark the end of a nearly 20-year battle between Augusta County and a Crimora trash hauler.
County officials recorded years of zoning violations by Robert Gochenour, owner of "Waste Movers." They included illegal storage of vehicles and equipment at his property on Thorofare Road. But both sides have signed a court decree requiring Gochenour to keep that site clean, but allowing him to operate from two other locations.
"We'd like to think of it as the last chapter in a very long story. Their place is very well kept, and we think they'll hopefully do what they said they're going to do," stated Augusta County attorney Patrick Morgan.
Gochenour now needs only site-plan approval to operate from a nearby site on Route 340. Attorneys say Thursday's agreement allows them to avoid a trial in circuit court.
