An Albemarle county school received a life saving gift today. Woodbrook Elementary is one of only 100 schools nationwide to win an automatic external defibrillator, or AED from the Cintas Corporation.
It is part of Cintas' nationwide program to raise awareness of how many lives can be saved from sudden cardiac arrest if places like schools, malls and churches simply have an AED on site.
Heather Chico of Cintas Corporation said, "Cardiac arrest will kill someone in minutes, the only thing that can save them is an AED."
William Sterrett of Woodbrook Elementary said, “We have so many activities going on in school and after school we think it lends itself to having an option should we need it.”
The AED is easy to use. The pads are placed on the chest area of the patient, and it delivers a shock only if they are actually in cardiac arrest and not suffering from another health problem.
