The Louisa County Sheriff's Department is investigating a string of church and convenience store burglaries.
The suspects broke into three churches and two convenience stores this week, all within a few miles of each another. The Pure Gas Station, Johnny's Quik Mart, and Mineral Baptist Church were all broken into this week. The names of the other two churches have not yet been released. There was also an attempted break-in at Dickinson's General Store.
Early Thursday morning, the suspects broke into the Pure Gas Station on Davis highway. They took the regular cash register, the Lotto register, and more than $2,500 worth of beer and cigarettes.
The same night, the culprits broke into Johnny’s Quik Mart on Pendleton Road and took a cash register there too. One woman who works at Johnny’s, Nancy Johnson, says this was a complete shock to her.
“When I got here, the sheriff was here and he said 'you can't go in'” she stated, “and I looked at the door and I said ‘this time it's not false, it's for real’. So we peeped around, we looked around. We were like ‘ok they really tore up.’ We could see the register drawer lying on the floor.”
Johnson says this is the first time her store has been robbed in her twelve years working there.
Major Donald Lowe of the Louisa County Sheriff's Department says there have been three arrests in connection with the break-ins, but that they're still under investigation. None of the suspects' identities have been released. Sheriff Lowe says there could be more arrests.
